HIAWATHA, Iowa (KCRG) - Families were welcomed to the new City View Community High School in Hiawatha.

The school was originally in downtown Cedar Rapids, in the Metro Economic Alliance Building, but has since been moved to Kirkwood Community College’s Linn County Regional Center in Hiawatha.

The school’s programming has an emphasis on “community,” many of the classes require students to get involved with local businesses and internships. The goal is to teach them they wouldn’t have gotten in a traditional high school.

‘We’re about connecting with the community, especially through student internships," Dennis Becker, head of school at City View, said.

The magnet school has 60 students. Students can also get things like college credits and certifications for completing certain programs.
