ANAMOSA, Iowa (KCRG) - The American Heart Association is collaborating with HeartCorps and other community organizations to establish multiple small outdoor food pantries throughout Jones County.

HeartCorps and other community organizations are working towards addressing food insecurity particularly in rural Iowa.

The food pantries will increase access to nutritious and affordable food. It also benefits individuals who live in areas that lack nearby grocery stores.

Many families in rural Iowa struggle to access healthy food, often resulting in them having to rely on convenience stores or fast food.

“While food pantries and assistance programs help those in financial need, many others still struggle to maintain a healthy diet due to logistical challenges,” said Lisa Heitz, a HeartCorps
