The Larimer County Coroner's Office has released the identity of the ultralight glider pilot who died in a crash in Berthoud.
Phillip Benson, 74, has been identified as the Boulder man who died in the Aug. 13 crash in the 3600 block of West County Road 2, near the Larimer-Boulder county line. Benson's death was caused by multiple blunt force injuries, according to the coroner's office.
The Larimer County Sheriff’s Office received a report of an aircraft crash at 8:40 a.m. Aug. 13, and when first responders arrived they found an ultralight glider had crashed and was on fire.
As firefighters worked to extinguish the flames, which were isolated to the glider, they located the sole occupant of the glider, Benson, deceased inside.
According to the sheriff's office, the initial investigati
