The Minnesota State Fair is overwhelming.

It's hot, busy, and packed with thousands of people. There are rides to try, new foods to eat, and friends to find in the throng before the Grandstand gets going at night.

The concerts happening throughout the day are one of the fair's best (and most undersung) attractions, in addition to being a great way to grab a reprieve from everything else going on.

Here are 15 performers worth penciling into your schedule as the fair gets going on Aug. 21.

Alma Andina

For the third year, the Cedar Cultural Center is hosting the Global Get Together, two days of live music at the fair. On the first day, they'll bring in Alma Andina, a veteran Twin Cities group that blends danceable Latin styles.

Aug. 27: 8 p.m. at the Summit Stage at International Bazaar
