LOUISVILLE, Ky. — A federal judge has dismissed the most serious charges against former Louisville Metro Police officers —Kyle Meany and Joshua Jaynes—involved in the 2020 death of Breonna Taylor.
Meany and Jaynes were accused of conspiring to cover up lies on the search warrant that was issued to justify the no-knock raid on March 13, 2020 that killed Taylor. Both were each charged with felony deprivation of rights under color of law, punishable by up to life in prison.
District Judge Charles Simpson III said in the ruling the was “seriously troubled” by their alleged action but ruled the pair shouldn’t be charged with violating Taylor’s civil rights.
