TEMPLE, Texas — A federal judge blocked a new Texas law requiring public schools to display the Ten Commandments in classrooms Wednesday, forcing local school districts to pause implementation plans.
The law, which was scheduled to take effect on September 1st, has been halted by a preliminary injunction after the judge ruled it violates First Amendment protections, including the separation of church and state and the right to free religious exercise. The decision follows a lawsuit supported by the American Civil Liberties Union (ACLU).
This marks the third time a court has blocked similar state legislation, following previous rulings against comparable laws in Arkansas and Louisiana.
Despite the legal setback, the ruling hasn't dampened enthusiasm among some local supporters. Brenda
