HURON COUNTY, MI – A passenger was killed in a car crash after the driver reportedly fell asleep at the wheel in Michigan’s Thumb.
The deceased victim was a 77-year-old woman from Bay Port. Her name was not released.
Huron County sheriff’s deputies responded to the fatal crash at noon on Wednesday, Aug. 20, on Sebewaing Road, west of Gaeth Road, in Sebewaing Township, Sheriff Kelly Hanson said in a news release.
The 77-year-old woman was the passenger of an SUV that was being driven by her husband, an 80-year-old from Bay Port, Hanson said. Deputies believe the driver fell asleep at the wheel, causing the SUV to drift into the oncoming path of an eastbound garbage truck.
