And it’s not just the glare coming from the 16-plex that now overshadows her home in the 14100 block of 98 Avenue, thanks to 20001, the bylaw that took effect on Jan. 1, 2024.

“It’s not even just about infill or density or densification. It’s about thoughtful, responsible growth in the city. And the bigger issue that’s been highlighted is the fact that residents no longer have a voice,” she said.

Active on social media, Petryk has kept a growing cadre of followers updated on the building’s progress with videos —including one of a neighbour’s family home sandwiched between two big apartments.
