LEWISTON, Maine — A commuter bus connecting the Lewiston-Auburn area and Portland has marked its first year of service with more than 23,000 riders, according to the Maine Department of Transportation.

The service, known as LAP, launched July 22, 2024 , after Concord Coach Lines ended its route between Portland and Lewiston-Auburn. MaineDOT contracted with RTW Management, Inc. of Salt Lake City to operate the bus as part of a two-year pilot program.

In its first 12 months, the bus carried 23,555 passengers, averaging about 1,900 riders per month and peaking at 2,508 riders in July 2025, MaineDOT said.

Fares were recently reduced to $5 one way, "making travel more accessible and convenient, as drivers are not able to make change for cash transactions."
