Gov. Kevin Stitt is asking the Oklahoma Supreme Court to block a settlement between the City of Tulsa and Muscogee Creek Nation on tribal jurisdiction.

The agreement, made in June, meant that tribal courts would handle some cases--mainly traffic tickets that were longly handled by Tulsa prosecutors.

Governor Stitt says this would create two systems of justice that he says Mayor Monroe Nichols does not have the authority to do.

“More than anything, this is a public safety issue,” Stitt said. “No mayor has the authority to pick and choose which Oklahomans are subject to the laws of our state.
