Denver Public Schools will close 13 of its schools Thursday because of anticipated “extreme heat,” the district announced.

The National Weather Service is forecasting a high near 99 degrees in the Denver area Thursday.

Another two schools — Johnson Elementary and Bryant Webster ECE-8 — will release students early because of the expected high temperatures.

Bryant Webster will release students at 12:20 p.m. and Johnson Elementary will dismiss its classes at 12:30 p.m. Both schools will run their normal bus services and provide students with lunch, DPS officials said in a news release Wednesday.
