MERCED COUNTY, Calif. (KSEE/KGPE) – A man was shot to death in the Merced County countryside on Wednesday afternoon under 'suspicious' circumstances, according to the county's sheriff's office.

At 4:14 p.m., deputies responded to the 4600 block of Hunt Road, just south of Gustine, for a report of a man suffering from a gunshot wound. He was pronounced dead on scene.

Due to the nature of the call, deputies say the incident is being investigated as a "suspicious death."
