ATLANTA, Ga. (Atlanta News First) - Tonight, a new group met for the first time to figure out how to make an Atlanta neighborhood safer.

The Edgewood taskforce was formed after a mass shooting last month with a goal to come up with a concrete plan to deter crime and make people feel safer in the area.

The group includes Edgewood business owners, residents, church members and city officials.

Johnny Martinez, owner of Joystick Gamebar, is part of the taskforce. He says the group plans to have six meetings before the end of the year.

Afterwards the group will present their findings and safety recommendations to the city. Martinez says he’s cautiously optimistic that the city will listen to what they want to see in the area and act on it.
