JEFFERSON COUNTY, Ala. —

A flash flood warning remained in effect until 10 p.m. for parts of Jefferson County after storms caused flash flooding Wednesday.

The strong storms rolled into the Birmingham area about 5 p.m. and dumped one to two inches of rain, causing flooding and downed trees Aug. 20.

Drivers had to slow down and try to avoid high waters along Oporto-Madrid Boulevard near Ludington Lane in Birmingham.

Another area that had flooding was Richard Arrington Jr. Boulevard and Coosa Street.

A WVTM 13 News crew found Hoover Police on the scene where a tree had fallen and blocked one lane of Shades Crest Road near West Oxmoor Road.

The National Weather Service also issued a flood advisory for Cherokee, Etowah and St. Clair counties.
