Five students from St. Paul’s Lutheran School exhibited projects with the Governor’s STEM Advisory Council on Aug. 17 at the Iowa State Fair in Des Moines.

Last winter students in Mrs. Lockie’s classes participated in a Game Jam by designing games that taught science concepts. They won the statewide competition and were invited to show their games to the public at the Iowa State Fair.

Fifth-graders Brooke Baker and Johannes Jeffcoat Schedtler created a board game “Power Out.” Players raced to collect three cards from renewable energy sources.

Sixth-graders Grady Goetzinger, Henry Stauffer and Timmy Mashek coded a digital game, “Butterfly Migration Challenge.” Players collected milkweed and avoided predators to advance to the next level.
