A man who spent £5k on a driveway to assist his disabled wife has been told to rip it up.

Stephen Price from Hengoed, Wales, says he will challenge Caerphilly council's decision to refuse him retrospective planning permission.

The 65 year old plumber and builder, of Heol Uchaf , began transforming his front garden into a drive around 10 weeks ago. The drive was nearing completion when council officials told him to stop as he didn't have permission.

He then submitted a planning application which was rejected last week following a majority vote by councillors.

His wife Kim Price, aged 67, suffers from various life-limiting conditions including heart failure, achalasia, arthritis, anaemia, and fibromyalgia.
