I pushed my kayak off the sand of Westboro Beach , jumped in and paddled furiously into a stiff headwind rippling the waves of the Ottawa River . Article content

Around me were two more inflatable kayaks containing two people each, all doing the same mad paddle as our guide, Kyle, insisted that all we had to do was get out a bit further to catch the current. Article content Article content

Then we’d be floating gently down the stream, I thought, imagining a perfect way to spend a scorching summer day in the city. That’s the whole point of a lazy river ride, right?
