Hundreds of homeless applications have been recorded in Renfrewshire in the first four months of the 2025/26 financial year. ‌

A total of 419 were submitted to the local authority from April to July – representing a 22 per cent increase on the corresponding period last year. ‌

The main reasons for homelessness in the area continue to be a relationship breakdown or friends and family no longer willing to accommodate. ‌

Other factors include the cost-of-living crisis, the pause on the 'local connection' test which previously prevented households presenting to council areas they had no connection with and a reduction in the size and affordability of the private rented sector.
