Higher Hopes! is providing Labor Day BBQ feast kits for 1,000 families facing food insecurities in Detroit. The families with children in the Detroit Head Start programs, will pick up the meal kits on Friday, Aug. 29.

The boxes will include the food needed for a family of 10-16 to enjoy a full Labor Day BBQ meal, including hot dogs, bratwurst, hamburgers, buns, corn on the cob, baked beans, cabbage, onions, carrots, and dressing for coleslaw, lemonade, fresh fruit and vegetables, condiments, grilling essentials, and Jiffy Corn Muffin Mix, according to a press release.

“This is the second biggest food event we host each year, with Thanksgiving being our first, and we’re pleased to bring it back for 2025,” says Bill Birndorf, founder of Higher Hopes!
