SOMERVILLE, Mass. —
A fire tore through a home under construction in Somerville, Massachusetts, early Thursday morning.
Crews were called at midnight to the residence at 75 Thurston St., which was vacant and fully engulfed in flames when firefighters arrived.
The home quickly collapsed, causing the fire to spread to two neighboring houses. The residents in the adjacent homes evacuated, and there were no reported injuries.
"I had been smelling smoke for probably like an hour or so, but it wasn't that bad. It was like, maybe someone smoking a cigarette or a fire outside, and then it got really, really strong, and I got worried, and I stood up and could see fire behind the house," neighbor Katie Lyons said.
The fire chief said both of the neighboring homes sustained extensive damage.
