Tornado researchers say a downburst touched down in the Wheatley-area during an early morning storm this past Sunday.

It happened around 4 a.m., Aug. 17, in farm fields near the small community of Coastworth.

The damage area was estimated to be around 500 metres long and up to 300 metres wide — including an agricultural drive shed being destroyed.

There was also damage to crops, and items like a trampoline were blown around, according to investigators with the Northern Tornadoes Project (NTP).

They say the storm carried wind speeds as high as 130 km/h.
