Shane Flowers was 32 and working as a mechanic when he decided to switch gears and go into business for himself. Twenty years later, his family-managed business is a Billings household name and a made-in-Montana icon.

There are a handful of businesses that planted their roots in Billings years ago, and have since made a name for themselves in their respective industries. Ranch House Meat Co. is one of those businesses.

And owner Flowers recently added a new title: President of the American Association of Meat Processors. He's the first Montanan.

“Montana isn’t really a meat processing state like most of the Midwest is, so it is great to represent the western states,” Flowers said.
