Icona owner Eustace Mita has presented plans to the public for a 250-plus-room hotel at the former Wonderland amusement park on the Boardwalk, what would be the largest private development project Ocean City has seen in decades.
On Thursday, City Council will vote on asking the Planning Board to review the site to determine whether it can be designated an area in need of rehabilitation to move that proposal forward.

Why is the designation important? Designation as an area in need of redevelopment allows municipalities to negotiate directly with potential developers and approve a redevelopment plan, which can include zoning changes for a site. T
