Most Michigan schools still start before Labor Day. But the numbers may be shifting.

Starting the school year before or after Labor Day has long been a point of debate in Michigan.

But roughly 20 years since state law first required a post-Labor Day kickoff , the number of school districts with a waiver allowing them to defy the statute has flatlined.
