GREEN BAY, Wis. (WBAY) - Green Bay is receiving federal money to keep the city’s Conservation Corps running for at least another year.
The city council agreed to $395,162 in AmeriCorps grant funds and provide $140,967 in matching local funds.
The money will support 39 AmeriCorps members through August 2026 for conservation projects including removing invasive species, restoring critical habitat and maintaining trails.
To make up for receiving less federal money, the city will look at expanding services to nearby communities for a fee.
In May , the city council approved $115,000 in emergency funds from the American Rescue Plan Act to save the Conservation Corps after President Trump’s Department of Government Efficiency (DOGE) canceled almost $400 million in AmeriCorps grants.
