There’s a light pole on Second Street in Troy near Monument Square that displays the round sticker of a woman’s face. The woman has a bright smile, dark bangs and a black bar drawn across her eyes — as if someone took a Sharpie and rendered her anonymous.

The sticker is a distinctive symbol of Madeline Darby, the electronic music act that won a Capital Region Thomas Edison Music ("Eddies") Award in 2022 for Electronica Artist of the Year. Whenever I see the light pole I think of Sarah Darby, the Scotia native and multimedia artist behind the sticker.
