KALAMAZOO, MI — As college students at Western Michigan in the late 1980s and early 1990s, Steve and Marie Blinn used to frequent Harvey’s on the Mall.

The bar, at 416 S. Burdick St., was a place where they would share laughs with friends and maybe even sneak a beer from the walk-in when no one was looking.

Fifteen years after graduation, in 2006 — and with a young, growing family — the couple became owners of that bar.

On Aug. 19, after 19 years of ownership, they announced their decision to close it down. The final last call at Harvey’s will be on Saturday, Sept. 20.
