U.S. Rep. Chip Roy has announced he is leaving Congress to run for Texas attorney general.

Roy said he was motivated to "come home" and fight for Texans after seeing their response to recent flooding.

The Republican congressman, who represents the area between Austin and San Antonio, previously served as first assistant attorney general and as a federal prosecutor.
