A prolific Leicester burglar targeted two homes and a shop during a city centre crime spree . One of the incidents reportedly saw an angle grinder used to gain entry.

Matthew Ryan is now behind bars following the incidents which happened earlier this year. The 49-year-old was arrested in the early hours of Tuesday, July 1, following a report someone had been seen trying to break into a shop in King Richards Road with an angle grinder.

Officers said when they arrived at the scene, Ryan had made off but he was located and arrested shortly afterwards following a search of the area. Further enquiries found that 49-year-old Ryan was also linked to two residential burglaries in the city .
