A resident of a Suffolk County-based adult home was killed Tuesday evening after she was struck by a bus in Port Jefferson Station, Suffolk police said.
Carrie Sansone, 62, was attempting to "run westbound across the roadway" on Route 25A when she was hit by a southbound Suffolk County Transit bus at 10:05 p.m., police said. She was taken to Stony Brook University Hospital, where she was pronounced dead, police said.
The bus was carrying no passengers at the time of the crash and police said the 51-year-old driver was not injured; he has not been charged.
The bus was impounded for a safety check.
