June 28, 1980: Dorothy Felker, 75, and Effie McAlicher, 77, are stabbed to death in their North 36th Street, Hampden Township, home. Multiple witnesses fix the time of the murders as between 11:30 a.m. and 12:15 p.m. At this same time, a 19-year-old Ronald Sperry Jr., who lives with his parents in the same neighborhood as the murdered sisters, is busy busing tables at the Penn Harris Motor Inn, having punched in at 6:30 a.m. and punching out at 2:30 p.m.
July 26, 1984: While riding his Schwinn 10-speed in Lemoyne, Sperry Jr. is questioned by a police officer about the ownership of his bike and other property found at his tent-camping site in the woods near 12th and Market streets. He’s arrested, fingerprinted, charged with receiving stolen goods and jailed in Cumberland County.
