On Wednesday, Aug. 20, Dundee Community Schools Superintendent Scott Leach announced that the school year would be starting on Tuesday, Aug. 26, rather than Monday, Aug. 25.

According to Leach in an letter to the community, the reason is due to mold growth in several elementary and middle school classrooms.

"According to HVAC technicians, this was likely due to this summer's unusually humid weather and the way our ventilation unit ventilators are designed to bring in fresh air," he wrote.

While the custodians cleaned the areas where the mold appeared, it returned and the district took further steps to address the issue.
