It took many years for the relationship between the Detroit Red Wings and Sergei Fedorov to get mended. Now that one of the franchise’s all-time great players will have his No. 91 retired on Jan. 12, could Fedorov join the front office in the future?
The Red Wings are loyal and like to keep prominent players in the organization after their playing days. The list starts with general manager Steve Yzerman and includes Nicklas Lidstrom, Kris Draper, Dan Cleary, Niklas Kronwall, Jiri Fischer, Jesse Wallin and Kirk Maltby in hockey operations as well as Mickey Redmond, Paul Woods, Chris Osgood, Larry Murphy, Danny DeKeyser and Jimmy Howard in television/radio.
Fedorov was asked in an interview by Sergey Demidov of rg.org whether he would be interested in a role with the Red Wings if asked.
