A veteran Delray Beach Police officer who served the last two months as interim chief has been officially appointed as police chief, the city announced Wednesday.

Darrell Hunter’s first job was in the Delray Beach Police Department, which he joined in 2007. Over the last 18 years, he worked his way up through each rank from officer to assistant chief, and was named interim chief in June after former police chief Russ Mager resigned.
