A wave of community action is building in Ninette as residents rally to support struggling local businesses after the temporary closure of the Tempo gas station, a key stop for both locals and summer visitors to Pelican Lake.

The closure comes at a time when small businesses are already facing headwinds from new boating regulations introduced by the Rural Municipality of Prairie Lakes. The bylaw, aimed at preventing the spread of aquatic invasive species, restricts boaters to using Pelican Lake alone unless they undergo inspection and decontamination. While environmental groups support the effort, many business owners worried the rules, including inspection fees and blocked access points, would discourage visitors during the crucial summer season.
