In Ohio jails, the number of Immigration and Customs Enforcement arrestees has tripled since President Donald Trump took office.
Reporter Adam Ferrise wrote a story last month about the increase – from 111 arrestees in January to 336 in June, at six jails – using data from the Transactional Records Access Clearinghouse.
But we can’t get information on the immigrants detained at the Geauga County jail.
Geauga officials have cited federal law and their contract with ICE as reasons for denying public records requests.
The ACLU argues that Ohio law governs public records and that the records should be released.
Now the sides will face off before the Ohio Supreme Cou
