BOZEMAN — Austin Clowes made his initial appearance in court on Wednesday, August 20, 2025, charged with the murder of Steven Kilwein in 2021.

On June 13th, 2021, Kilwein was murdered in his home in Bozeman. The case went unsolved for four years, until about a month ago, when police arrested Clowes after DNA obtained from Kilwein's pajama bottoms matched Clowes’ DNA.

Clowes made his initial appearance before Judge John Brown. Gallatin County Attorney General Audrey Cromwell represented the Sate.

Clowes, charged with deliberate homicide, pleaded not guilty. His bail remains at the initial amount of $1 million dollars.
