A Winston-Salem man was sentenced to prison Monday after he pleaded guilty to second-degree murder and intentional child abuse, inflicting serious bodily injury, authorities said.
Judge Richard Gottlieb of Forsyth Superior Court sentenced Fernanda Lavon Jones, 37, to serve 21 years and two months to 26 years and five months in prison, the Forsyth County District Attorney’s Office said.
About 4:20 a.m. on July 27, 2021, Winston-Salem police, city firefighters and emergency medical technicians responded to a home at 1250 Peachtree St.
Local authorities received a 911 call, saying that a toddler had difficulty breathing.
When emergency medical technicians arrived, Fernanda Jones brought 23-month-old Thomas Jones to their ambulance, the district attorney’s office said.
