President Donald Trump said he’ll patrol the streets of Washington, D.C., on Thursday night alongside police and the National Guard as his administration tightens its grip on the nation’s capital.

“I’m going to be going out tonight with the police and with the military, of course,” Trump said in an interview with talk show host Todd Starnes, The Washington Post reported .

Trump’s announcement comes more than a week after the Republican president ordered an extraordinary takeover of the deep blue District of Columbia.

Trump described the city as overrun with crime and gangs. City officials, pointing to data showing a drop in crime, have vigorously protested that characterization.
