OTTAWA — After allegedly being left on hold by the White House, Canada’s prime minister had a phone call with U.S. President Donald Trump on Thursday.
A brief readout of the call provided by the PMO described the conversation as “productive” and “wide-ranging,” and covered topics including the ongoing trade war, “opportunities and shared priorities” in what the note describes as the “new economic and security relationship” between Canada and the United States.
Carney and Trump also discussed the Ukraine war, and “how to build on the President’s leadership to support long-term peace and security” for both Ukraine and greater Europe.
Both leaders “agreed to reconvene shortly,” but didn’t provide a timeline on when the two will speak again.
