CEDAR RAPIDS, Iowa (KCRG) - Two people were seriously injured after their vehicle swerved off the I-380 bridge on Thursday.

At approximately 1:30 p.m. Thursday, authorities responded to a two-vehicle accident near the intersection of I-380 and H Ave NE.

Police say a vehicle heading northbound on I-380 tried to merge from the center to the right lane. A nearby car swerved to avoid contact.

According to authorities, the swerving vehicle hit the concrete barrier over the H Ave overpass, causing it to leave the roadway and fall to the ground below.

Two individuals were removed from the fallen vehicle by the Cedar Rapids Fire Department. The car was severely damaged.

They were taken to a local hospital for non-life-threatening injuries.
