At some point in the future — likely the near future — the Twins will get their first real looks at starting pitchers Mick Abel and Taj Bradley.
Acquired at the trade deadline, those two figure to play into their plans for the rotation moving forward. But as the two acclimate to their new organization at Triple-A, the Twins have been using a mixture of journeymen and rookies to fill a couple of empty rotation spots.
The results have been mixed and were anything but pretty on Thursday when José Ureña, who threw 5⅔ scoreless innings and allowed just two hits against the Detroit Tigers last weekend, was rocked on Thursday in the Twins’ 8-3 loss to the Athletics.
“I couldn’t get us out,” Ureña said. “Sometimes it’s a little bit difficult.”
