The Reno-Sparks area will shift from triple digits to a wetter, stormier pattern as monsoonal moisture moves into the region this weekend, according to the National Weather Service in Reno.

A heat advisory will be in effect from noon Friday to Saturday at 9 a.m., with highs between 99 and 102 degrees expected across much of western Nevada. Lows will stay in the mid- to upper 60s.

By Saturday afternoon, thunderstorm chances increase, with the most active period forecast between 2 and 6 p.m. for the Reno-Sparks area. Forecasters warn that localized urban flooding is possible depending on rainfall rates. Lightning will also be a concern.

It’s going to be pretty moist for Reno standards, according to Mark Deutschendorf, a meteorologist with the NWS Reno office.
