Additional number to be added to 502 area code region

FRANKFORT, Ky. – The 502 area code region of Kentucky is set to have a second area code.

According to a release by the Public Service Commission, the region will have an additional area code of 761, which will be assigned in 2027.

Officials estimate the 502 area code, serving north-central Kentucky, will exhaust its supply of available telephone numbers. Once new phone numbers for the 502 area code have been exhausted, the release states new customers will be assigned a 761 area code.

The 502 area code will continue to remain in use.

Anyone currently using the 502 area code will not see changes to their existing phone numbers or area codes, the release says.
