OAK RIDGE, Tenn. — Multiple agencies were searching for a missing boater in Oak Ridge on Thursday evening.
According to the Oak Ridge Police Department, multiple crews with the city and the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency were searching Melton Hill Lake for the boater near the Edgemoor Road boat ramp and Haw Ridge.
TWRA said its officers responded after receiving witness reports around 4 p.m. According to TWRA, a man and woman launched a boat from the ramp earlier in the afternoon.
The boat had engine trouble, so the operator dropped the female passenger off at the ramp while he worked on the boat. The woman said she later found the boat unoccupied after it drifted onto a sandbar downstream from the ramp.
Police said crews were using sonar and underwater drones to find the missing
