PAWTUCKET, R.I. (WPRI) — The Pawtucket Animal Shelter is asking for the public's assistance after six snakes were found abandoned at a cemetery in the city.

In a social media post Thursday morning, the Pawtucket Animal Shelter explained that the snakes were found stuffed inside a trash bag at the Walnut Hill Cemetery off Armistice Boulevard.

Devan Gary, executive director of the Pawtucket Animal Shelter, told 12 News a city worker picked up the trash bag while cleaning up the cemetery.

"Upon going to throw it out, the bag ripped and out fell the six snakes," Gary explained.

Gary said Pawtucket Animal Control officers have since brought the snakes to Sabrina's Reptile Kingdom in Cumberland.

Anyone who recognizes the snakes or knows someone who's missing six should contact the Pawtucket
