WARWICK, R.I. (WPRI) — Mayor Frank Picozzi is trying to stop the federal government from selling the historic Warwick Neck Lighthouse to the highest bidder.
The General Services Administration (GSA) announced two years ago that the Warwick Neck Lighthouse was one of six lighthouses nationwide that were being offered at no cost to certain entities that were willing to maintain and preserve them.
Picozzi told 12 News roughly a week later that he planned on applying to take ownership of the lighthouse on the city's behalf.
"It's like the jewel of Warwick," Picozzi said at the time.
But the beloved lighthouse has since been listed for auction.
