DAVIS, Calif. —

A UC Davis representative said the university is reviewing how a text message about an active shooter drill was sent out Thursday to some in the campus community without the message being labeled as a drill.

A campus WarnMe message sent at 9:02 a.m. was intended for a limited group of emergency services staff, spokesman Andy Fell said in a statement.

“It appears that some additional recipients got it through the Nixle alerting service, but the SMS text message lacked the word ‘drill.’ A linked message did say that the event was a drill,” the statement said.

UC Davis said the university then sent a follow up Aggie Alert to employees and students to correct the error.

“We apologize for any distress caused and we are reviewing how this came about,” Fell said.
