JONES BEACH, Long Island (PIX11) -- While Hurricane Erin certainly made her presence felt on Long Island on Thursday, the storm was also a reminder that hurricane season is not even halfway through.
Emergency managers on Long Island said that efforts to prevent flooding and other damage from Erin are preparation for the rest of the season, in which an above-normal number of storms is predicted.
Some of the measures used to protect from coastal flooding were deployed in advance of Thursday's anticipated high waters. Those efforts appeared to pay off in ways that beachgoers talked about.
