BILOXI, Miss. (WLOX) - On Thursday, the Mississippi Supreme Court announced that it declined to grant certiorari review in the appeal filed by Johnny Max Mount, Jr. in January.

This denial means that the decision issued by the Mississippi Court of Appeals on January 7, 2025— that Mount was fit to stand trial— stands.

Nearly 10 years after the crime, Mount’s party wanted to appeal his first-degree murder conviction. The appeal questioned whether he was competent to stand trial after suffering brain trauma from being hit by a vehicle in 2002 and attempting to overdose on Tylenol as a teenager.
